Fast and easy: Spiral cast on. - Schnell und einfach: Spiralanschlag

Use a smooth yarn rest / scrap yarn of same thickness than your working yarn (legth should be longer than the width of the piece you will knit).

Make a knot at the end and tie it onto your right hand needle.

Hold the long yarn end parallel to the needle in your right hand.

I usually secure the yarn end by hanging a loop onto the needle before I start winding.

Hold the short tail of working yarn with your right hand and wind the yarn around needle and helping thread, building a spiral.

I recommend winding a few more spirals than you actually need, you can then easily adapt your stitch count. Once finished, untie the knot from the needle tip and pull out the helping thread so that no stitches will drop down.

When knitting your first row, you can knit as many stitches as needed, the surplus stitches can be dropped off.

Ich empfehle, ein paar Wicklungen mehr zu machen als Maschen benötigt werden, die überzähligen Wicklungen bleiben einfach ungestrickt. Den Hilfsfaden lösen und den Faden ein Stück herausziehen, damit die Maschen nicht herunterfallen. Dann stricken.

To pick up stitches from this cast on, just replace the helping thread by a knitting needle (it is easier to use a smaller needle) and slip all sts to knitting needle.

This cast on method creates one first row

in contrary to a crochet cast on, where the cast-on-row will be unraveled or

in contrary to a winding cast on (Judy's magic cast on) which creates two rows.

If you are a tight knitter, you may use the needle size you would use to get gauge. If you are a loose knitter, you might use a thicker needle to get the same stitch size.

For best results, I recommend to knit a swatch.

Wenn du eher fest strickst, nutze die gleiche Nadelstärke wie zum stricken. Wenn du eher locker strickst, eine stärke dicker, da die Spirale eng gewickelt wird.

für beste Ergebnisse, empfehle ich eine Probe zu stricken.

I must admit, that this method is not the easiest for newbie knitters as the spirals tend to loosen when you come to the end and this might be a bit fiddly for unexperienced knitters, but once you have tried it a few times, you will love it!

Ich muss zugeben, dass diese Variante für Strick-Neulinge ein wenig problematisch sein könnte, da die Maschen am Ende der Spirale manchmal ein wenig locker werden (daher auch mehr Spiralen aufwickeln!)

aber es ist so flexibel und soooo schnell! 😀
